Winter Sampling Campaign Successfully Completed Within the ERA-MIN_RO-SRB Project Despite Extreme Conditions

As part of the ERA-MIN_RO-SRB project, the winter campaign for sampling water, soil, and air was successfully carried out across the cross-border region of Serbia and Romania. Field activities were conducted under extremely challenging conditions, including low temperatures, frozen water bodies, and frozen ground, further demonstrating the professionalism, dedication, and technical expertise of the project team.

Despite the demanding circumstances in the field, all planned locations were successfully covered in accordance with the established methodology and European environmental monitoring standards. This phase of research represents an important component of the comprehensive environmental risk assessment related to mining activities and tailings management in the cross-border area.

The collected samples will undergo detailed laboratory analyses at the Mining and Metallurgy Institute Bor (MMI) and the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, as part of the joint scientific cooperation between project partners. The analyses will include physicochemical parameters, the presence of metals, and other potential pollutants, with the aim of generating reliable data for further environmental and health risk assessment.

The winter sampling campaign once again confirms the importance of cross-border cooperation and the support of the European Union in strengthening research capacities, improving monitoring methodologies, and applying modern scientific approaches in the field of environmental protection. The ERA-MIN_RO-SRB project continues to contribute to the development of sustainable and responsible mining, based on scientific evidence and European standards.
