Project Summary

The ERA_MIN project addresses environmental risks caused by mining activities in the cross-border region of Romania and Serbia, with a specific focus on areas such as Moldova Nouă and Bor.

This region faces severe environmental challenges, including soil, air, and water pollution, which significantly impact human health, biodiversity, and ecosystems. Key issues include the disposal of mining waste containing high concentrations of metals, sulfides, and other toxic substances.

These materials, when exposed to air and water, oxidize, creating acid mine drainage (AMD), which further contaminates rivers and soils.

Project Objectives

The project aims to assess current pollution levels, analyzing air, water, and soil quality, as well as the health implications for the local population. Another goal is to raise awareness about climate change adaptation and develop sustainable solutions for managing environmental risks in mining regions.
